Question

Post by lighteninguk »

Righty O....
After the car sat on the driveway for a couple of days with the battery lead disconnected, i have gone to start the car up, only to be welcome with a very irratic idle.... as in very quickly going from high revs (i dont have a tachometer so i cant say the values i also dont have a specialist amp meter) to low revs, although when first starting the car, it launches up to the high revs... to stay there a while, then the down and up revs get going....
basically... pants,
i've been for a drive to see if it turning over with a bit of load will rid of it, nope. also got back looked at the radiator... and it's spat some coolant out of the overflow of the "header" tank where the cap allows it to come through from pressure. *argh*
got my little gunsons ECU reader out. and am getting code 51, from what i can tell thats the lambda sensor error.
before i splash out for another one, any one got any ideas?
Edd
*EDIT* I have had an idle problem in the past, where it would flatuate in revs as described above, but alot slower (every 3-5 seconds before dropping or rising). This I managed to cure, could hardly notice the problem after, by cleaning the Throttle Pot. and the Idle stepper Motor.

Hmmm, I know that if you dicconect the battery the Car / ECU needs to re-learn the drive of the car and so a 10 min drive at a bot 3k revs usually stopd this kind of thing.

well as you said...... after driving around (up n down the by-pass and transporting other bits and pieces, the cars remembered how to run the engine again..... strange things these ECU's....
