xantia ride hight... - the facts

Post by ActivaV6uk »

I've managed to get some official info on this!
175/70 R14, 185/70 R14 and 195/55 R15 all share the same settings.
205/55 R15 and 205/60 R15 are 5mm higher front and back.
I was going to write all the info on this post but i need to put the diagrams on too so you know ware to measure to. i will add a page to activanet and then post the link. looks like the front of the car should be 155+7/-10mm this figure is ease to find as its beasured from the floor to the botom of the front subframe just to the side of the back of the front wheel (see why i need to post pictures now).
This info is from the Citroen service tool so its acurate.
I also have info on the suspension geometry if any one is interested.

I've also added tracking info.
There is a seccond diagram and setup for post 98 cars. I will try and get this info up shortly (its the same basic measurements just a diferent way to get the height more acurate).

Any idea why the ride height is set higher with bigger tyres?

I think you'll find that from about 95 all Xantias fitted with 15" wheels had a higher ride height at the rear.
Its not mentioned in the attached document but something I noticed when they were new and have found on the various versions I have owned.

My Xantias have different ride heights.
One has 185/65 14" tyres the other 185/65 15", the wheels account for the difference.

The 185/65 R15 can you check what the lable on the drivers side by the door hinjes for this car says. i'm still looking at the database but thats not a standard tire for a xantia aparently!
Richard I'm in the midle of sending you a mail but this data would cover that year. i have to post the information for the other cars as this may just be the deisel variants (1.9/2.1) from years 93-96. i'm still reading but it looks like there are rule to contradict rules etc (i'm begining to understand why citroen garages dont get things right firts time!
with regards to why these settings are correct i am taking it directly from citroens own figures and they dont explain why just how.

Thats not a setting I have as an option for that year and model it should be 175/70 R14, 185/65 R14, 195/55 R15, 205/55 R15 or 205/55 R15. Check the factory lable on the drives side (near the drives door hinges) the setup you stats is ok for an estate. with it being a 1997 this was the year of the Phase 1/2 change you may have a car made up of parts they needed to use (lots of K reg BX's are like this)

ok this is interesting, on the hatchback the seccond setup method for other cars gives:
1.6/1.8/2.0/1.9d - X1=121mm X2=136mm
2.0 16v/CT/1.9TD/2.1TD - X1=114mm X2=144mm
Activa - X1=141mm X2=116
this uses a compleatly difernt method of measureing the hieght which will be alot more acurate i will post pictures shortly.

Intrigued and bored (it's lunchtime!) I've just fetched the manual from the glovebox. Under "Diesel Saloon Models", "Turbo D" column, I have (including the notes):
185/65R14 MXV3A
195/55R15 MXV3A (with light alloy wheel option (on LHD vehicles without catalytic converter))
185/65R15 MXT (right hand drive models without catalytic converter)
185/65R15 MXV3A (models with catalytic converter)
Mine is the last in that list. So 185/65R15 is definitely an option, I'm afraid, even if it's not in the list that you've got :-). I'd love to know why non-cat models were recommended the MXT, while cat models for the MXV3A. Still, mine's on NCT5's now.
Cheers

Its a standard tyre, on the door pillar. Incidentally the spare is the same size and type of tyre as the others (unused since new) although the wheel is steel where as the others are alloy (and rather scratched and corroded so one of my tyres goes down).

its a 1997? i'm guessing this is one of the things they did for the last year that wasnt documented as the setup is that of an estate not a hatch.

My 95 TD LX Hatch ran on 185/65/15 as standard, and I was surprised to find that my 97 VSX does as well (mind you, it's a bit of parts bin job I think!) - even though it has the alloy wheels. My mates L reg VSX TD had 195/55/15 fitted as standard I think.
