The weather finally encouraged me to have a go at the bulb failures in the XM dash.
Started with a box of 50 miniature capless bulbs and some peace and quiet.
I now have a fully functioning set of lights and the screens are back up too. I lost count but there are over 40 lamps in the full array including switches.
Took all afternoon, stripped the whole dash out three times despite testing bulbs. I lost a couple each time I replaced the clusters.
Put the steering wheel back finally and tested the system and the air bag light failed to light. Sooooooooo bulb or fault? Dismantle dash again, getting quick too, replaced bulb and all is well.
All I need to do now is find the radio code, put it down somewhere safe [:I]
had 50 now only 6! XM dash.

I know it's a bit late now but you can get the dash to bits without taking the steering wheel off. Lower the steering column to its lowest position and you can get a long torx screwdriver in to undo the side screws, you have to bend the facia a bit to get it out but it will come, relatively unscathed. Saves a lot of time. (sorry Mr Haynes)
