brake tool

Post by shaunthesheep »

hi folks,
regarding the brake caliper tool, used to retract the piston inner back it the main body by turning, called into main dealer to ask them to order the correct tool for me
(fed up of scraping knuckles,
hanyes one listed as 9011-T, page 10.4.
only to be told that 'we don't sell tools to the general public, only citroen workshop, as they are invoiced directly',
so what i'm asking is that does anyone know how or where i can get one of these tools from or simaliar.

I seem to remember that Sykes Pickavant once did a caliper piston wind in tool.
Try www.sptools.co.uk
Personally never had much trouble with the traditional 1 chisel 1 screwdriver method to wind the piston in, but maybe I am just a true bodger!
If you really want the Citroen special tool then I imagine that its very pricey, if you want I will make enquiries on your behalf as I have obtained Citroen special tools in the past.
I would try SP first though.

Iv'e never seen one of these tools dedicated to hydro Cits, plenty about to fit normal cars, unfortunately normal cars have the parking brake acting on the rear wheel's and rear wheel caliper's have small piston's.
Cits on the other hand have the handbrake on the front wheels, front caliper's have big piston's so the smaller rear piston wind back's don't seem to come anyware close, I bought one for a normal car and adapted it to fit the big caliper.
These folk do a complete set, probably expensive, doesn't say if their's fit hydrcits.

Franklin also do a set but they don't list Citroen as being a make that it fits.

Personally I just use a screwdiver on its side, mine seems quite free. My question..why do you need to twist the piston back in, is it to stop the tearing of the seals or is there something else in there (ie handbrake mechanism / self adjust etc)?
Thanks

Yep, it's to overcome the handbrake adjusting mechanism. Don't ask me how it works, 'cos I don't know! What I do know is taht winding the pistons back is a real pain in the t**ts!
