Adjusting brake pedal free play. - AX.

Post by maddave »

Hi,
I have just bled my girlfriends AX due to the brakes being a little crap! They work fine now but there is a lot of free play in the pedal. You can press it a good 1 to 2 inches or so before the brakes come on.
I had a look in haynes and it is as helpful as usual, just tells me how to take the pedal assemble out and refit in reverse of dismantle!! Grrr!!
Can the free play be taken up by adjusting the nuts on the servo/pedal linkage bar?
Cheers.
David.

there is obviously a probiem with the brakes!
first check that the front brakes are nice and free, check that the rear brakes arent seized and that they are adjusted ok.
try bleeding the brakes again.
if you think that the linkeage assembly needs adjusting it looks like something is wrong!,the most common fault on the AX brake assembly is that the pivots seize up,ie:the one on the bulkhead you can see easily.
i have done acouple of AX where the pivot behind the servo seizes partially, bit of a pain to sort out!
THESE ITEMS MUST BE CHECKED FIRST BEFORE ANY ADJUSTMENTS ARE MADE TO THE LINKEAGE(this is normally preset at the factory)
