As its the correct carb for the engine the only bit to be set is the idling isn't it?
ideally done with a CO2 meter but you'll get somewhere very near getting the thing to sound right and a sniff and listen at the exhaust.
Usual default settings for needles are to screw in (not tight) and unscrew by 1 1/2 turns.

The idling screw is in the back on the right side, correct?
The problem i am having is that the engine won't stay on, when i stop 'helping' with the throttle, then it turns off, plus the engine doesn't sound like it's working 'round' if you know what i mean.
I took it for a drive and it accelerates and pulls good up hills.

Check the idle jet. It should be a 45.
Also make sure that it hasn't picked up a bit of dirt in the idle jet.
Float level should be set at 7mm +/- 1.5mm from memory.
If set too low, it will not idle and will lack power particularly under accelleration.
If set too high, black smoke will come from the exhaust. Check also that there's no air leaks on the intake manifold or any open pipes from the carb that should be connected to ignition advance or to anti-pollution equipment.

Hi Alan, i took the jets out cleaned them again, no change.
i don't think there is a way to adjust the float level in my carb., there is no smoke and the accelleration is very good.
i have no anti-polution eq. so i guess the only thing left for me to check is maybe wrong connections?
If i get some pictures, will you know to tell me if my connections are ok?

Those jet sizes are close enough to not cause a problem so I wouldn't worry.
Another common problem encountered if the jets have been out is the two centre jets refitted in the incorrect place.
Try leaving the two idle jets where they are but remove the two jets that are fitted in the centre holes.
Take care where they come from and fit the left jet to the right hole and vice versa.
May sound a bit weird but I had a 16Trs that this had occurred to and when I sold it, the buyer took it to a "specialist" who played around, swapped them back & then couldn't understand why the car wouldn't run correctly.
I swapped them back & it went well for another 60,000.
Just be careful to keep a close careful eye on where they come from and where you screw them back in.
