Dyane problem

Post by Maxx »

When I start the cold engine of my dyane, or when I push the pedal accelerator with the engine at minimum, the engine produce one explotion and the air filter is pushed out from the canister.
Which is the reason of this problem??

sounds like it couldbe timing - I know that the dyane has double sparking over the 4 strokes so I suppose it could be a bit more critical?

Inlet valve not closing I think.

back firing and pushing the air filter out was quite common on the dyane and 2cv.changing the points and condensor behind the fan will cure it.the ignition needs to be set spot on.if you know what your doing they are easy to tune.make sure you have a detailed manual.as a citroen specialist for 20 years i always used a dwell meter and timing light.

or its just too cold an engine and you have to much choke or are pushing the accelerator too far. Its quite common for them to dothis when cold, less throttle and let it warm up a bit more.

Yes it will almost definately be the valves or the ignition. If you check these bits systematiacally then the problem should be fixed and if it is just a case of Dyanes and 2cv's doing this when cold you wont have wasted your time unless youve done these jobs in the last 3000 miles anyway. I have to admit I never came accross this in my 1 and a half years of driving a Dyane everyday so I would suspect its one of these two problems.

whatever the problem turns out to be, change the airbox lid, they get very worn on the lugs if it pops out more than a few times.

This always happened on the citroen dyane, where it broke the lugs off the air filter top, due to engine backfiring through the inlet manifold. The reason for this is because the spark plug gap is too large, try adjusting the gap and the problem will be solved.

You know, I've just realised that my 2cv hasn't done this since I fitted 123 electronic ignition. Might just be co-incidence I guess and at £120, it's an expensive fix! A great idea for the Dyane though as you don't have to fight to get at the points all the time once fitted!
