Xantia 1.9TD Warning Lights

Post by robsyme »

I just bought a 96 Xantia a few weeks ago. The orange light on the temperature gauge is now on permanantly as is the red STOP light above it. The fan also does not cut out until the engine has been switched off for about 5 minutes. Can anyone please advise.

Does the gauge read about right - ie about 80°C steady running?
If so, then there is a problem with either the sensor for the bitron unit, or the sensor itself. I think it's the brown on on the thermostat housing. Try unplugging it, and the fans should go to high speed.

I had this when I first got my 97 1.9 TD Xantia and found that if my heater was on full heat, ie: all the way to the right, the same fault occured. When I put it around 18 to 20 degrees the fault went. I know that this isn't a fix but it is a temporary way round the problem.
