xantia manual gearbox

i am starting to get a crunch when i go up or down into fourth gear.all other gears are ok.does anyone know if this is a sign of the clutch or syncromesh going?

Possibly synchro, but give yourself a fighting chance by giving it a transmission oil change and drop a bit of additive in & see what happens.
I had a similar thing on my BX16V (dealer serviced) and found to my horror that it had 300 mls of oil left instead of 2 litres. Seems it used to lose some when anyone did a CV boot job and they just didn't refill it; dealers are like that.

I second the gearbox oil change and additive, when i first got my xantia i thought it was a bit clonkey changing gears so i changed the gearbox oil and put some slik50 gearbox treatment in and it was a lot smoother and quieter afterwards
