Retrofit - Xantia 'facelift' instrument cluster

Post by jack.dempsey »

I have acquired an instrument cluster for a Xantia, which turns out to be one from a facelift model. Anyone attempted to connect this up to a late pre facelift model ? I can see that the connectors are different but presumably if existing cables were adapted to the new connectors this should work.

Hm, isn't the speedometer on pre-facelifted models cable-operated? On facelifted, it's electrical.

The speedo drive mounts on the gearbox in the same way, so that ones not insurmountable.

My '95 pre-facelift Xantia has an electronic speedo.
The instruments looked pretty similar, I know that there are some differences between the pre facelift '95 and '97 Xantias I have, e.g. fog light lights on the instrument cluster of the later Xantia that arent on the earlier one.
By electronic I meant it has an electronic sensor, no mechanical cable, it is analogue mechanical after all.

The late MK 1's, and mines a '98, have electronic speedo's - with mechanical odometers (strange really). The facelift have electronic with digital odometers (much more sensible). As far as I can tell the mechanical odomoter on the pre facelift is driven from within the speedo head unit - probably by a stepper motor (or similar).
