Xantia dash removal

Post by roy_newell »

Hi guys, I'm new here, I have a citroen xantia, p reg(96) 1.8sx and the other day (exactly 1 day after I bought the car) the clutch clip snapped, I have read and heard that this is extremely common so I wasn't bothered as the new one was only £5.50.
Now I looked in the footwell and yeh, it wasn't going to happen that way so I decided the best way which would give me a good view (I like to know whats going on exactly) was to take the dash board off.
Right, I've got quite far into it, have taken off the glovebox, centre console, clocks are out, steering wheel and airbag are off, all the things in the middle bit of the dash such as radio, vents, buttons etc are all off (apart from heater controls obv).
I have looked everywhere I can possibly see and removed every bolt holding the dash to anything that I could find and yet I'm still missing something, the dash will rock from the bottom but the top wont move.
If anyone could scan me the pages from their haynes manual or direct me to an online copy, or even just write the steps out I would be so so thankful as I can't afford to buy myself a haynes manual(i'm poor, sorry)
Thanks in advance guys

Im pretty sure there is a link somewhere on this forum to another Citroen site that has the Haynes manual for the Xantia on.
If you have a broadband connection its about a 67Mb download.
Its just a case of finding it.

I think that you are putting yourself in for a lot of trouble removing the whole dash to do only the clutch clip. There are other posts on here about the clutch clip which will help you. I have done 2 and they are not so bad.
Anyway, there are three studs in the engine bay that need to be removed that will allow the dash to come out. These are covered by plastic covers. (There are 5 in total but only 3 hold the dash). If you go to this much trouble you may as well do the heater matrix at the same time. Also have a pile of dash bulbs handy because when you put all back you'll see some have blown.

I did try doing it without taking the dash out but it was just too hard, it was just easier to do this, plus I like taking my car to bits, its fun getting it all back together again, you learn a lot about how the car is put together too so now, for example, a heater matrix problem I can easily do as I know how to get to it.
What do you mean by I may aswell do the heater matrix? Nothing is wrong with my heating or climate control systems, they function as intended.
By the way, had a very comprehensive search around and can not find that workshop manual anywhere on here

The Xantia heater matrix never gives any trouble, Yeah right!
While its in bits like NP said, I would be kicking myself if I didnt fit a new one.

I agree, replace the heater matrix as well whilst you have the dash out. A matrix gets full of crud and for the cost, you may as well do a good job and replace it.
And, as brian says, have a handfull of dash bulbs available too, I did when I had my dash out, I replaced 17 bulbs!!![^]. Also have some duct tape or insulation tape handy, I did and found several broken clips holding the matrix housing had broken. I just taped the thing togather and re clipped where I could.
Good Luck
