Water in rear sea well.

Post by alanjb »

My Xantia 2000sx 1994 keeps collecting water in the rear seat wells.
When I lift the seats to carry large items I discovered it.
Does anyone know where it comes from? The seals all seem OK and the doors fit and the roof glass fits snugly. Does anybody please have any suggestions.
The rear screen wash dosn't work. Any connection?? (Advice on the routing of the tubing to rear screen wash would be very welcome).
I know you get water from a well but this is rediculous!!

Alan
It's always worth checking the sunroof. The glass is designed to leak. The water then goes into a tray in the headlining. If you open the sunroof and carefully pour water into the tray you will see under it, it should come out of four drains. Two are behind the front wheels, and two behind the rear wheels. If the tubes are blocked, the tray can overflow and the water goes into all sorts of places.
When mine have blocked I've cleared them by poking bicyle brake cable up the tube from the bottom and then flushing with loads of water. The alternative is to take the whole headlining out. <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
If you do a search on the forum you will see this is not a new problem, and other people have found different causes.
Have fun!

Read on another board that a guy had stopped this by sealing along the joint between the inner wheel arch and the boot floor, claims he had a hose pipe playing on the underside of the car to find the waters point of entry.
Sounds likely and it has to be said disturbing if its correct, yet another Xantia build quality issue.

I heard somewhere that if you park a Xantia facing uphill it doesn't drain the sunroof gutter properly and eventually leaks. That would also explain why it ends up in the rear?

Thanks for suggestions. I do park uphill on a slight drive so I will try reversing in. The other ideas seem very plausible and I'll try to check them. At the moment it's not raining! Thanyou all Alan

ANOTHER POINT YOU SHOULD CHECK IS THE REAR DOOR MEMBRANES. IF THE DOOR PANELS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF FOR ANY REASON AND NOT SEALED PROPERLY WATER WILL ENTER DOOR AT GLASS AND RUN INSIDE DOOR ONTO INNER SILL. WITH REGARDS TO THE SUNROOF PROBLEM THE O/S/R DRAIN PIPE IS RIGHT ABOVE THE FUEL TANK BREATHERS.

Hello everyone,
Recently, after washing my Xantia Exclusive, i too found some water under my rear offside passenger seat, (not pleased, have not had the car for long!!!) Anyway, i then noticed that the corner of the headlining was wet too and i could see where water had run down past the seatbelt on the plastic trim, so i figured this is where the water was getting in, only problem is, i just can't seem to find where the water is getting through as everything seems to be in order. I will investigate further and let you know if i find anything. Just thought this may give you some idea of where to look. Don't rule out the obvious things though, as my dads Xantia was getting water in the drivers footwell, the first thing i looked at was the door seal as it looked worn, i replaced it and the carpet has been dry since!!
Regards, Rich.
