Biggest Wheels on a Citroen ZX?

Post by AthlonZX »

Can anyone tell me what the larget wheel size in terms of diameter and width it is possible to fit to a Citroen ZX? I have been offered some 17" 205 (width) tsw alloy wheels, but I'm not sure if I can fit them to the ZX. I've currently got standard Aura TD wheels on which are 14" 175 (width).
Thanks

I think the biggest wheel u can have with out making modifications to the wheel arches is 195/50/15. Plus u have to rember that depending on what wheel size u put on your car depends on what your speedo reads.

I put 185/55/R15's on and they caught on my ZX TD Memphis, I eventualy used the grinder to remove the lip on the inside of the arch to create the clearance.
No way will you fit 17" 205's in the ZX arches they're not like the Pug 306's they're waaaaay smaller.
Sorry but IMHO no chance[:(]

You can just on a 16v or 17" at least but the rear aches are cut away far more compared to other zx's. You also have to bear in mind it will increase the gearing a lot putting a much bigger wheel on that standard making it slower to accelerate and the speedo will under-read

Everyone here who quickly "NO'd" this idea due to the "enormouse" difference in size should get their slide rules out!!
A 205/45/17 tyre is actually marignally smaller in rolling radius than a 175/75/14 (0.1% to be exact)

205's will rub on the back arches, my 195x55x15's just clear the lip, can barely get a finger between the tyre and the arch and if you have any wear at all in your torsion bar bushes where your wheels lean in slightly like / \ then every time you go over a big enough bump or have people in the back they will rub like hell.

Doesn't that depend on the offset?

.29% and 0.2mph I make it so yes I guess not much difference however are you sure they come with 75 profile as standard? I would have 65 at the most which would make it 5.69% and 3.98 mph out

Yes, depends on offset, and totally agree on the ratio comment
ZX arches are narrow basically if you reduce(or is it increase, I forget) the offset they'll simply rub off the insides instead, and that was with 195's
They're not going to fit, unless you fancy 3 foot spacers or some creative slashing with a grinder [:p]

NiSk,
What I meant was is you fit larger than 195's they will rub on the wheel arch, and even with 195's if your torsion bar bushes are worn they will rub on the inside and when you go over bumps will also rub on the arch as the wheel moves up under the arch.
Basically any bigger than 195 and your gonna have problems of some sort unless its a ZX 16V you've got.

Yeah, sort of theoretical really since we don't know all the parameters, but if 195's of any profile are a very tight fit between outer wheel arch and inner, then I guess you're correct in saying 205's won't!

Thanks everyone for the input [:)]. I am aware of a very slight lean on both rear arms on my zx (I can assumme I'll eventually have the same tyre rubbing fun I had on a BX 16valve). I'll probably have the wheels anyway and set them aside for another project. If I do get the wheels I'll offer them up to the car anyway and tell you what happens.
Cheers
