OK _ Got a new plipper - how do you swap the key?

Post by MikeO »

Managed to get a new plipper for my 94 Xantia and have re-programmed it successfully, following the advice given in another thread (except I had to turn the ignition ON, not just to the 'battery light on' position for the re-programming to 'take').
I now want to put the key from my old plipper into the new one. I'm guessing it'll involve drilling out both rivets - or am I missing an obvious solution? When I've drilled both rivets out, how have people here re-attached the new key? It looks too small a diameter for a pop rivet - nut & bolt?
Any ideas greatly appreciated...
Cheers

There is a fitting kit available from Cit - 1.50GBP for the kit which is a spring plus the relevant PUSH-FIT rivet.
and therein lies the secret- spread the old plipper each side of the key and the rivet will start to separate and can then be removed. Te key is then transferred over using the above kit. Really quite easy(for a Cit)!!

Mike, where did you get the plipper, I've been after one for a while, avoiding the dealer. Cheers, Tony.

Picked one up from the scrappers last week - worth trying your breakers yard.

Tony,
Got it at a breaker. Quite lucky - it looks like it's never been used...

I've tried quite a few breakers with no luck. I've posted on a few breaker web sites as well. Keep my fingers crossed!

There is a good picture of rivet and spring at:

I think this is the later RF plip.
