Head Torx bolts

Post by beano »

Can somebody explain if the type of bolts I have just purchaed from GSF for a BX 1.7 td are correct. The bolts have torx heads but the thread extends the whole length of the bolt, which are the same as I removed. However in the Haynes manual it seems that on my vehicle I should use shretch bolts with the Torc head, which only have a thread for the lower third of the bolt. I guess once I definitely know what type then I have, I can use the correct tightening procedure, as they appear to differ.

The ones you describe sound the same as the ones we used on a BX16V when we redid it.
I think you'll find the upper section of the thread is almost like a wood screw and I imagine it's there as part of the stretching procedure.

the ones for the 1.9na have a thread all the way down and are stretch bolts (suitable for the 1.7td), the Xantia 1.9td engine had fully threaded bolts as well so im guessing its just a Haynsism.
