Xantia Starter motor
To raise the suspension on my non starting xantia my mechanic cranked the car over until he had raised the suspension to the changing wheel postion. Is this a normal thing to do to raise the suspension when the car wont start. Would this not reduce the life of the starter motor and indeed the battery?

The same technique is used to get any car moving, when the clutch hyraulics/cable has failed.
As long as the clutch can still transmit power, you just start it in gear. Although you have to be careful!
Also the loading will be greater, and the starter will get HOT !!
I had a clutch cable go on a car years ago.
When faced with the cable dissappearing through the bulkhead, and the need to get out of the traffic flow you resort to "expedience" as oilyspanner said.
