Automatic gearbox reliability thoughts

the problem with the autobox was/is the change up speeds,they are far too low and you always want to be 2 gears higher.this occurs even when the box is correctly set up.for example top gear is unobtainable under 52mph unless the throttle is only lightly touched.

I don't have that problem with my V6s'. Trouble for me is they wont change into 3rd below 35 so for in town driving you have to get to 35 then drop the speed back down and economy is only achieved at the lower revs in 3rd. 4th is engaged at about 48mph and shifts down again around 43 mph.

Yea, I was very annoyed when they put a speed limit on one of the big "A" roads I regularly travel. The SAAB was constantly in 3rd at 50mph with the exception of a few downhill bits; up the speed to 55mph and the box was happy in 4th. It was a real drain on the mpg and I very rarely obtained 25mpg - disappointing really as the manual SAAB 9000 is supposed to be fairly frugal.
