Push or Pull Clutch?

Post by CommY »

Hi All
I am replacing the gearbox in my 1997 1.9TD Xantia with one from a 1994/5 1.9TD car. I know there are two different types of clutch (push/pull) but what was the change over date or were they in production simultaneously. Is there any way to distinguish between them or am I going to be safe knowing that the 1994/5 Xantia will have the same type of clutch installed as my car.
Cheers

As far as I know all Xantia 1.9TDs had the pull type clutch right through production, so you should be ok.

The 1997 and the 1994 should be the same clutch, if they're the same gearbox.
I have seen another clutch listed for the 1.9TD for 1998 onwards, but I can't tell you a lot about it.

A way to tell is (although there are a lot of cables and hoses strapped to the gearbox) by looking at where the clutch cable connects on the gearbox. There is a moving arm and a static arm. If the moving arm is nearer to you (front of car) than the static arm then you have a push clutch and if the static arm is nearer to you then you have a pull clutch.
