Has anyone had any experience of the water pump belt letting go on an XM 2.5TD?
Having done it once and been replaced, it did it again after about 100miles. Any ideas?

164K (miles) would be close to the average service life of a waterpump, but they might as well pass the 200K limit no problems.
It's important to check a waterpump for any slight lateral movement of the axle, as this indicates a gross failure just round the corner, and might explain any mysterious friction during running.
Having scared you away with this, I have to say it could simply be a bad belt or the belt wrongly tensioned. Belt tension should be like any alternator belt - not like the scaringly tensioned HP pump belt.
