Bx starter motor

Post by Ian Fearn »

According the the Haynes manual i need to remove the oil filter to remove the started motor as access is poor on the GTI.
If i remove the oil filter, do i need to drain the oil? Bearing in mind i changed the oil and filter about 2000 miles ago.
Crikey, BX's are a lot more complex than the 2cv's i know and love!

You will only lose the contents of the filter, less than that if you are quick;)

Brilliant, so other than that, you believe changing the starter is an easy job with just a couple of bolts?
It seems with late (ish) citroens you need to remove half the car just to do what initially seems like a easy job!

I've recently done this one. It is a bit of a pig. I am firmly convinced that after removing the air cleaner hoses and divers and sundry bits of clutch linkage, the best way is to pull the radiator out as well. I know that that is a pain and neatly contradicts my advice re. your heater controls but it is definitely the easier way to do this job unless you are an experienced gynaecologist.

I removed the inlet manifold when I last did the job on a GTI

Having fully re-built my 2cv i'm used to doing the work myself but this car just takes the p*ss!
I'm very tempted to give it my local specialist (yet again). So far about all i've managed to do myself is change the spheres.
Also does anybody know where the reverse light switch is located? I guess somebody will tell me
"to locate this switch, first remove the engine!"

The switch on my 16TRS is on the gearbox, accessible from above after removing battery and air inlet/filter unit. If I remember right, it is 21 or 23 mm, easily identified by two wires leading to it.
