This is how you read fault codes

Post by Sico »

Hi,

This is the way to read fault codes.
If you have the 30 pin diagnostic connector, you can read the fault
codes with the aid of only a switch and the check engine light.
The pins are numbered as follows:
1 2 3
a - - -
b - - -
c - - -
d - - -
e - - -
f - - -
g - - -
h - - -
i - - -
j - - -
You have to connect the switch between C1 and D1.
Where C1 is the K-line of the ECU,and D1 is ground.
This is the procedure:
1: Switch has to be open.
2: Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3: Close the switch for three seconds, and open it again.
the check engine light wil flash code 12, which means
"start of test" .
Code 12 is indicated as: flash pause flash - flash.
4: To check for more codes, close switch again for three seconds and
open again. If next code is 11 (flash pause flash)
this means "end of test" = no fault codes.

If code 56 is displayed after code 12, this means "coded anti theft
" This code wil not appear if you enter your code before starting
the test.
5: To erase the fault codes, close the switch for
10 seconds, open switch and turn off the ignition.
This can only be done AFTER code 11 has been displayed.
I have got a complete list of fault codes, so if you want to know some more just mail me.

Hi Bernie,
I am using this on a 1996 Xantia 1.6
But it should work on all citroens and peugeots with the 30 pin
connector.
My english is not good enough to explain how my name is pronounced,
so just call me psycho! (some people think this name suits me very well)

Hi
This method also works on some of the earlier Citroens & Peugeots.
You just earth the No 2 terminal in the Green 2 pin diagnostic socket normally located behind the drivers side headlamp.

This method will work on Citroens up to about 1996, after that a code reader will be required.
