Hello and HELP

Hi. I've just bought a Citroen Xantia HDI 110 sx. Spent lots of time looking on here before buying, to get an idea want to watch out for. You we're a great help. Now i've got a slight problem with the car.[:(]The garage i bought it from had to fit a new fuel pump as it wouldn't start when they went to give it the final valet. The day after i picked it up i noticed a small pool of diesel under the car. When i investigated, the fuel pump was wet. Both hoses are ok and it seems to be leaking from lower down. I dried out round the top of the pump, but after only a couple of miles, it was wet again. I've taken it back to the garage, where they had a bit fiddle about with it, i drove it and it seemed fine. But it isn't, they claim to have tightened it in more, but it still leaks. Any advice? I want to avoid going back to the garage as its a 150 mile round trip. I also looked for a Haynes manual, but they only go upto 1998 and mines a 2000 model.[B)]

If the car is under warranty - you have no choice other than pay yourself to let a local garage do it [:(]
It sounds to me the fuel lines are fitted incorrectly - like wrong size hose clamps not clamping all the perimeter of the hose on the studs or a similar problem.
I have the feeling it could be a question of only a few quids at your local diesel (not Citroen) specialist.

You tell the garage that the car is unroadworthy (Fuel leak), that it is their problem, not yours and ask them to come and get it, returning it when it is repaired. If they don't like that, they can agree to pay for the work to be done at your local Citroen dealer. Check your rights with the local trading standards and remember that they have made a lot of money out of you so you don't have to do them any favours!

sounds like the rubber seal round the top of the pump has got damaged/came off its seat during fitting the new pump (or it wasnt even replaced at the same time)

How easy is it to remove the pump and inspect the seal between the pump and the tank? Does it have to be below a certain level, as the tank is almost full at the moment? And finally, what do you guys use for the HDI xantias as haynes don't cover them?

I had a similar problem with my old Audi A4 company car (TDi) - the upper pump seal started leaking - Audi fixed it, but a day later it started leaking again. You must be meticulously careful with this seal as there's a hell of a pressure behind it.

I think that if you do anything to it, you will have burnt your bridges. It is their responsibility - take Tom's advice.

Took it back last wednesday, and got them to fit a new seal kit. All carried out under warranty and it doesn't leak[:)]

You asked about Haynes and HDi Xantias. Well, they were supposed to be updating their offering in the summer but it seems that it is still summer as it has not yet happened! Either buy the French version or the Peugeot 406 ( in English )which does cover he HDi.
