Im now sitting at the harbour at Scrabster. I debated taking the car on the ferry to stromness, stay the night and tomorrow at my sisters in Stromness then get the overnight ferry to Aberdeen on friday night, then only 40 miles to get home. I was thinking about it cos it would save a b & b and 200 miles of diesel. I stopped thinking when i discovered its £59 here to Stromness and £110 Kirkwall to Aberdeen! I was having another think for you Jim. I think I have solved your travel problems so you can get to Scotland and see all this for yourself. Cycle all the way! You could do it in a couple of days then cadge a lift round so you recover then cycle home! Easy peasy [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

The mountains die down as you come east along the top, and it turns to beautiful little unspoilt beaches between the headlands. The car has a developing problem. I thought the long runs would have delayed this, but at 83k covered I suppose its around the time for it. DPF at risk of clogging, or whatever word they use. Thats another job saved up then.

If I decide to go home tonight im doing it the fast way, missing out John o groats and wick, and no stopping for pics. Im in recovery mode parked up at the harbour where i worked out of for a few years. Its a pity the fishermans mission has closed down, they did cheap beds for fishermen and ex fishermen and usually had a fantastic cafe with them. The one here had, it did fish and chips to die for, and fabulous breakfasts too, having eaten quite a few of them in the past whilst storm bound in here,

I think if I attempted another 3&1/2 to 4 hours driving tonight i would be dangerous by the time i got there. So this is safest and best option.

There will hardly be any darkness this far north in june, maybe only 3 hours of dark all in.
