New C5 Owner
Hello there,
I've just recently got hold of a '58' C5 Exclusive 138 with the lovely 6 speed auto. first off, I'm very impressed. I've always been a fan of 'big Citroens'. (I remember as a child being taken home in a friends dad's Xantia and being amazed at the suspension etc.)
So, when I got the chance to get hold of a C5 I took it and am very pleased. I'll admit to lurking on this forum long before my purchase and now I have one I though I might as well join.
My parents tell me that I must be the youngest C5 owner (I'm 23), but as an engineering student I see so much innovation and high tech stuff in such a good looking car and well.... that's me sold!
I don't plan on any modifications really, mainly maintenance although I have upgraded the stock RD4 radio to the RD45 for the bluetooth and USB support.
So yeah, glad to finally be a member

Re: New C5 Owner
Haha thanks,
Well I was very cautious when looking but managed to find a really low mileage example... it even had the original mats!
Hopefully the only damage would be lack of use rather than the issues found on high mileage cars.
I will admit that the Hydracive suspension does terrify me if it stops working but that's one of the reasons i got it so its on my head...
ps... does this smilie get used much around here...

Odd you should ask that.
See the RIP Citronut thread.
Malcolm (Citronut) employed that one quite frequently.
But otherwise - not a lot.

Retrospectively welcome - although I feel as though you've been here for years already after today and the Audio upgrade thread!
And if we're talking Citroen and ages of owning one, I think I've pipped you as I owned my first GSA at 17 - a hideous Canary yellow and owned nothing other than Hydraulic Citroens ever since for my sins

Haha thanks.
That must have been great! Would have loved a Xantia or something after I passed my test. Had to make do with a Peugeot 206 1.1i Although it wet my appetite for the high equipment levels you get on PSA cars.
I remember my mates wondering about its auto wipers and lights and even AC!

Re: New C5 Owner
My first GS (the 1976 P ref one had, wait for it, seat belts! They weren't inertia reel, but had a huge metal bar between the driver and passenger that the seat belt clipped onto.
The novelty at the time was the spade handbrake that was in the middle of the dash, but even better was the front discs of the brakes were in the middle of the engine bay, so no removing of the wheels to change the discs or pads!

Re: New C5 Owner
Thats what I'm talking about! the little extras that citroens have over other cars.
I fear with the withdrawl of the C5 from the UK market and the partnering with the chinese they wont ever try anything innovative again..... it'll be all about numbers.

Re: New C5 Owner
The GS really had so much going for it in comparison to other makes at the time.

Re: New C5 Owner
The only thing that kept me poor owning both my GS cars was the CV joints - they just seemed to go every 6 months or so for some reason.

^ Same here, went though driveshaft like wildfire.
I was just speaking to a colleague f this this afternoon.
I did a 150 mile trip one day searching for them and one of the scrapyards was where his house is now.
