I have been driving Mercs for a while but needed some thing more suitable for work ie diesel bigger boot and at the same time my dad was looking a new c5 so onto number 2, so I acquired his old car only having 198,700 miles from new when he bought it. Before that he had a Xantia till it was sold of similar high mileage before that was a 405 engine packed in, BX before that, Renault 25 before that and an Austin Maestro that's as far back as I can remember. As you can see he has been a french nut for many many years. Me it was punto, ka, Audi 80, series 3 landy and 2 merc 190's great cars now this C5. Only had it since Christmas when I was home to pick it up whoop whoop done about 6,000 miles in it since then not fully sold on it yet have a few probs which I will hopefully sort before I get fed up with her and decide to sell

My Merc 190 is 20 years and 165k and has less probs so I start to wonder is the C5 just at the end of her life needing too much to keep her on the road for what is now a tired reasonably common high mileage car? I know I shouldn't bad mouth a Citroen on a french forum and big up a german as I will get abuse more just comparing them due to both high mileage

Hi Alan and welcome :-D

No, we understand! We know well that our French motors need a bit more TLC than is perhaps usual with some other stuff to keep them running sweetly but that's part of their charm?

I trust we can improve your relationship with the C5 and make you forsake the Germans and become committed to the French way of motoring

Welcome to the FCF :)

You should have stuck with German cars, these Citroens are very attention seeking

Im joking! If you find one with a few jobs doing then they are well worth getting right, as a good Citroen is a superb one.

However, there is some truth in your thoughts. If jobs mount up and are costly repairs then that is potentially the end of the cars useful life if the costs outweigh the cars value. However if you like the car and want to keep it then it is worth getting them done and sticking it out, after all, better the devil you know ..
