Had my '98 306 (xud non turbo) estate, 104k miles, since February and thought I should enlist to this great site. I've got previous form - a 405 xud to be precise, which ran great on cooking oil till it exprired of non-fuel related issues. Current car is Lucas equipped, so plain old diesel, at least for now.

Currently sorting out a starting issue (car, not me!) which I thought was air ingress, but hasn't improved since by-passing the fuel filter etc so it hoping it's good old glow plugs (4 new ones just bought from GSF - hopefully fit tonight).

Longer term would like to remove EGR, but quick question on this - will I run into MOT emissions problems if I do, and is there a proper blanking plug for the exhaust end?

Thanks, and good to be here.

Hi, welcome to the FCF :)

If the car is in good health I doubt you will have MOT problems if the EGR is removed. Though hopefully someone else will be along to confirm this

And welcome to the forum from me as well :)

Re the EGR as Chris states you won't have problems at MOT time, the easiest way to stop it operating is to pull off the vacuum hose that runs from the solenoid to the valve then plug the end of the rubber pipe with a screw to prevent crud being drawn into the vacuum pump.
