Bonjour' XM PRESTIGE

Post by tonx »

Hi all, Thought i'd join here as ive just aquired a 94 citroen xm presige, and im having a few problems with electrics, for one, the rear lights and number plate bulbs keep going out, the bulbs are fine and ive checked the fuses? Any advice would be helpful. And if anyone knows of a good citroen garage in the yorkshire area would be good. Sorry for the long winded introduction.

Hi tonx

Welcome to FCF

The usual problems with XM rear lights are:
Tailgate hinge wiring cracks and breaks;
Oxidation on the bulb holder contacts;
Poor earthing to current returns.

Check for blown bulbs first then clean up the bulb holders.
Next look for the extra yellow earth wire in the tailgate wings.
This was a Citroen upgrade for early XM's.
Single wire from extra blue plug on taillights to a chassis bolt.
May have extra wires added to blue plug if you have a towbar fitted.
Clean up the chassis earths.
Finally there is a rubber sleeve by the tailgate hinge.
This contains the tailgate light supply wiring.
See if flexing the rubber alters which lights are working.
As a last resort pull to bits and reconnect any cracked or broken wires.

Yes. Power steering, brakes and suspension all operate on a common hydraulic system and use ONLY LHM/LHM+ fluid.

Welcome to the FCF :D

Is your Prestige a 2.0 TCT? Manual or auto? They are a rare car now.

Some pictures of your Prestige would be nice ... 8-)

Hi' its a 2.0 turbo petrol, auto Prestige xm. from feb 1994, so it has the early dash and steering wheel, which i think looks cooler.

Very nice, very cool :P

I'd rather have the XM rather than the other car, whatever it is, in the second picture... It looks positively dowdy against the beauty of the XM...
