Ebay joker.

Post by Gibbo2286 »

I bought a windscreen repair kit off Ebay, only seven quid but had included a UV lamp to speed up the curing, the lamp doesn't work so I popped a message to the seller saying so, don't expect anything back.

Got a reply this morning "Could you supply a short video of the problem." #-o

could this be to do not bothering to read / listen, instead preferring to respond to what is expected to have been said

Had all sorts of, sometimes hilarious / unimportant / frustrating instances of this over the years

They are just doing that to put you off claiming a new one under warranty - many Chinese companies do this nonsense in the hope you will go away.

I had a similar thing so i said "No stop messing me about its not working, if you dont replace it i will contact ebay" The seller just sent a new one.

Not really worth fussing about, the stuff cures in daylight in about four hours anyway, the uv lamp just speeds it up.

I'm beginning to notice a lot of ebay sellers selling factory rejects at full retail price then feigning suprise should you realise and complain. They buy in bulk at rock-bottom prices so you can imagine the huge profits to be had when people can't be bothered to enforce their rights. Having waited a month for the slow boat, for most buyers it's simply not worth the wasted time taking photos/videos, uploading and writing emails, conforming to ebay rules, possibly having to return the item and waiting for a few quid refund. Even the offer of a partial refund and "gifting" the item sees a nice profit for them so it's win, win for the sellers.

All in huge contrast to Amazon returns/replacement policy, where the goods are often not required to be returned (my guess on this is that if an item acquires a history, they just write it off, and take it up with the manufacturer). Frequently, the replacement item is put into dispatch almost immediately.

A month! Great - then I've got that to look forward to - as I ordered a replacement power board for one of my Smart TVs from China and was hoping that a month was the outside latest!

I just hope it works is all I can say, to make the wait worth it.

For small flat items, they often send via bulk airmail which takes around 10-15 days, Marc.

ETA: Bear in mind Royal Mail are really struggling this year and our round has been without a postie this week until today! I also had two parcelforce 48hour deliveries take three days last week.

That reminded me I had an Amazon account once but Ebay was far cheaper back then, especially with free deliveries so abandoned it.
Anyway, thought I'd try the password reset option as I note they're more competitive now but expecting to have to re-register all over again due to Data Protection rules as it's been about four years, but oh no, looks like there's loopholes allowing them to retain my data all this time.

Good to know - I ordered it on the 4th, so it is due 14th Dec to 14th Jan - but I have given up with Royal Mail Tracking - it's not worth the effort of putting in the tracking number and going through the 'Shopfront' anti spam picture hassle - just to find that they don't have anything! They often don't provide tracking info until it's out for delivery - fat lot of good that is.

My travails with China Post / Airmail has some info - has been stuck in the same place for 10 days! - So looks like they've either been waiting to fill the cargo container up or they are celebrating Chinese New Year a little early!

Could be the season but I rarely have to wait more than ten days for Oriental sourced parcels to get here.

When I was looking for a 2nd powerpack for my laptop (another joy of 2-centre living) there were some ridiculously cheapones from, I think, Thailand - delivery, I seem to recall, 3 months but, I agree, most stuff from China (even when it is actually posted there) arrives in a couple of weeks.

Mike - just how do you know anything is a factory reject?

Sending stuff back is, for the for the most part, not worth the time, trouble & expense (much like eBay's much vaunted but in truth, absurd, eccentric, totally inconsistant &, ultimately, virtually useless guarantee) AND,of course, that's what all the dodgy dealers, on which eBay depends, rely on. TIT would have a field day.

Amazon! NEVER use it, absolutely dreadful set-up - still have to pay for the privelege of once having made the mistake of ordering something from them though. Of course they (like everyone else) retain all the data, they're the one that is protected - all they're required to do is draw your attention to where you can find out what they're going to do with it, i.e. sell it to the highest bidder.

Hundreds of problem free purchases from Amazon too.
Also have, but infrequently used accounts with Amazon.com (America) Amazon Japan, Amazon Germany and Amazon France.
Again, problem free.

Have to agree, Amazon, love them or hate them have not let me down, returns are simple and I generally get refunded even before the items have been returned - as soon as the item has been handed into the post office (also free returns).
