The P76 had a 4.4 litre V8 which was a copy of the Buick engine, but it was completely re-tooled in Australia to suit local manufacturing technology, and I was told (by someone who had rebuilt both) that although the parts generally look identical that nothing is interchangeable with the Buick/Rover version.

BMC Australia did earlier make a 2.4 litre 6 cylinder based on the B series engine, but this went into the Austin Freeway.

My error, Mike. I was all at 6's and 7's. Must stop relying on memory!

The P6 6-cyl trials were coded P6/6, P7 etc., and a full story here:
https://www.aronline.co.uk/concepts/con ... /rover-p7/

The 1970/71 video is interesting (I have never seen this before), as it shows some impressive footage of cars being tested with experimental anti-roll suspension. At the start, the blue car can be seen to to rise on its own, The anti-roll obviously worked (against a usual rolly Range Rover!), with a limiting factor being the grip of rear tyres! Makes an interesting comparison to Hydractive.

1960-65/68 must have been an interesting time for Rover, with so many engine options under consideration, and the gap between the old-style and heavy i.o.e. sixes and the future being bridged. No time for money to be tight! One more parallel with Citroen-PSA.

Now if we're going to bring theoretical propulsion into things, I'm simply going to utter the words "Orion Drive" and walk quietly away.

Ion drive is much closer to being actually useful in the real world though...

Onion Drive sounds a bit impractical but on that theme I like the idea of cruising in space using photon sails/solar wind.

Listening to this always evokes that feeling.

just finished doing graphics at a Northants factory  in 3 test cells, 2 of which contained V12's, apparently the last 'hurrah' of NA engines.
going into a £2.25 million car, works of art.....1100 bhp with another 250 for a 25 run of them for racing and weighs less than a Ford Mondeo tdci, 200 kgs.
clips of engine are about on the 'net but we were allowed to hear a part of a simulated Silverstone lap....awesome 8-)
no pics as you can imagine unfortunately but very interesting to hear about projects from recent times that i'd never even considered

Unusual/Interesting Engines-The Steam Train Set

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

The Hornby R1401 Live Steam Train Set, and a bit of wordy assessment of the "Live Steam" locomotive. Proper steam engine...boiler in the Tender, heated by electricity picked up from the rails. The review has some interesting information about how it all works in practice.

Oh yes please...how can you not love a teeny tiny steam engine?

Interesting looking at that last video that one of the engines mentioned looked to essentially be a modernised version of the old opposed piston setup we know and love from the likes of the Commer TS3 and Deltic...just with direct injection and a turbo bolted on it seems...

Couple of interesting ideas in there though...

While this isn't an engine, there was some talk of Dyson making an electric car and would they put there 'digital' motor to use in it.Dyson make a stupidly expensive hair dryer - £400 for the cheap one  and £500 for the gold-leafed one - double

This is an interesting tear down and general poke around in one - quite amusing and very revealing

If I have difficulty getting to sleep I think those videos would do the trick.

Have to say I found them interesting and amusing in spite of the profanity - or perhaps because of it.
