Yep. Unfortunately the googlemobile doesn't do off-road.

They do, however, employ walkers with Google camera backpacks. I bumped into one in Farnborough a few years ago, walking through a pedestrian zone.

Dumpy place, smells, odd crowd

Pickled Egg has been around for a long time but its terrible. The strangest folks hang out here. Its not a very cool place, very boring. I would not go here. I'd recommend going to Carlys, Nips, Waterfront, or Billy Hos before stopping in here. The place still has an odd smoke funk smell to it from pre-smoking ban era.

Place is CLOSED, replaced by 4Keeps

The Pickled Egg is GONE, place was gutted and totally remodeled to make a new joint called "4Keeps". 4Keeps is a good bar, only lacking item is any sort of food items outside frozen pizza (Emil's which is good).

The most ancient of Pickled Egg pubs, was one in Clerkenwell London. The current street Crawford Passage, was formely called Pickled Egg Walk. The Crawford name comes from a former licencee of the Pickled Egg.

You wouldn't expect the old boozer still to be surviving.....no this is the streetscape today in Crawford passage

There has to be a limited number of these large balls at various locations throughout the UK.

So if anyone is curious enough to delve. I will pose a question.

Haven't done it myself but a very small amount of googling playing around with the search term "large Balls" Plus "radar" or some such terms may well drag it up on the image list.

There may be some who recognise it without such artificial aids.

There is one close to me - MOD armaments factory.

My dad worked in three of them and I worked on the support site adjacent to them for a while, got the tour and was quite impressed, seeing the 'flames' going down the waveguides to the antennae, and the swish of the antennae as they scanned the horizon.
BMEWS Fylingdales.

Haven't a clue about that one. If it is around here it could be Consett - saw one when I was up there a few weeks ago.

There is/was so many of them around that that one could be almost anywhere ! Trimingham, Boulmer, Menwith Hill, Oakhanger just off the top of my head.

Well I have just discovered an interesting article/blog post associated with the mystery golf ball (which is a CAA NATS station) with a couple of nice pictures....even one which is relevant to the French Car Forum.....yes this.

The blog is entitled

..and the chap was on his way to search out the site of a Hawker Hurricane (W9112) crash in 1941, marked by a Canadian Flag very near the Station.

I will deposit the link to the blog in the Pickled Egg Library....I found it interesting maybe others will too.

I used to live near Tweedsmuir, which is not too far from Biggar. There was a saying there; "London is big but Biggar is Biggar!".

I wonder if anybody can say who was the famous author who lived in Tweedsmuir?

He wrote his most famous book in Broadstairs, Kent, and this is the bottom of the inspiration of the title. altough apparently there were actually 78!
