Ohh, never knew that about the lid Bobins

Or the test in Cheddar for that matter... Made sense as in those days there was a lot of nuclear concentrated in that area...

The Class 46 was a new one on me until your post and I thought I knew early 60s Diesels well... Clearly not...

Although, in my defence the Class 46 was very similar to the Class 45 and was still known as a 'Peak'..

The Wikipeda article on the '46 refers to the nuclear Flask test at Old Dalby...

Little film on the making and crash testing of the nuclear flasks. Worth a 10 minute watch.

Funny what captures your interest as you mooch around those places with antiques, Bric a Brac, general tat and 1950's/60's I-Spy books!

Come on, you can't get any more "niche" than this....

Quality stuff!

One page of one of the 6d Series books had drawings and descriptions of "The French Onion Seller" and "the Knife Sharpening Bicycle" with points on offer for spotting either. The latter may have been something like this..

At the Amberley Museum they have a whole great hall devoted to roadmaking - The Paviors' Museum. It's, ummmm....... interesting

Sprouts are fine if eaten either raw or very lightly steamed... I hated sprouts for years until I discovered I just did not like them cooked!

The snow has finally arrived here... None at all at 04:00 but by 06:30 we looked like this:

I was due to run the MK Winter Half Marathon today but sadly it's been postponed :(

Shame as I was looking forward to running it in the snow...

Fortunately I have snow chains for both my car and company van, as well as 'snow chains' for my feet. It will make for an interesting day though.

I have heard of people who peel the sprouts, gently cook the leaves and then add bacon lardons. That seems to get around people not liking them.

I think I'd prefer them coated in chocolate rather than bacon fat James :)

Hope you don't have to go very far today James but I guess with the general population desperate to empty their wallets before the New Year I guess you're rushed off your feet at the moment...

Lymington, Southampton, Guildford, and (if there is time) Hemel Hempstead, based on the calls I had sent down to me. Things can always change.

These are the sort of things I have on my feet. I gave some to my Mum a few years ago. She reckoned they saved her from serious injury when her dog suddenly pulled at an awkward angle (whilst on the lead) and she was able to keep her footing on hard rutted ground.

Bloody Hell James, that's a heck of a lot of travelling  Poor you :( I can only wish you well and trust the roads remain mercifully free of idiots on a day like today...

I'd forgotten just how good Chrome Dioxide tapes recorded on a decent deck with Dolby Noise Reduction sounds...

To my old ears, little to distinguish them from CDs...

Some young school children were recently shown some of those, and a VHS tape and player. It took them quite some time to work out what those last two did. #-o
