Yes, very well acquainted with the East Somerset Railway Neil. In fact I'm around a mile from it as I type this. I will be going for a run down to the railway later.

David Sheppard was a most inspirational character, he will be sadly missed.

Well I think I know that one off the top of my head! I have recently watched the tribute video for David Shepherd which seemed to be condensed from the fuller version I posted up on the ON TV thread.

It showed footage of a couple of the steam locomotives he purchased being stored on a military railway.

This article tells a bit more MoD railway which starred in St Trinian’s and Young Winston, including this rather NIMBY response of some local residents.

A preservation group, led by artist David Shepherd, who specialises in painting steam locomotives and wildlife – particularly elephants, took over the sidings at Liss station and placed many locomotives there including the famous Merchant Navy class Clan Line.

His hopes of purchasing part of the line were dashed when local residents, very much against having a preservation railway running alongside their properties, purchased part of the track before the group had raised funds. This put an end to their aspirations and the stock was sent to the East Somerset Railway.

You get a 9.5 out of 10 for that, Neil. The photo is from 'The Great St. Trinian's Train Robbery', and the live train scenes were filmed on the Longmoor military railway, which connected to the mainline via the Liss spur, where David Shepherd.... etc, etc

The old Longmoor system had an odd history - it's where, amongst other things, sappers were taught how to build temporary rail bridges..... and then how to blow them up

Well I have nailed it Jim, but so as not to give the game away for others who may know, lets think of a bit of a coded message so you know I have got the right place!

Once upon a time, The Black Prince and the Green Knight did live around those parts.......and probably could have been espied from the top of the Tower. (along with 7 English Counties and a bit of Wales!)

It is set in the most gorgeous of woodland and serves to refresh weary hikers and walkers... It is quite a hike to get to it!
