Re: Picture(s) of the day...
Just staking a claim for the 1,000 reply to the Pictures of the Day thread....but I haven't actually got anything in mind yet so I'll very probably have to edit it in later!
Regards Neil
Put "1000" in the search box on Geograph....5 million images get scanned, and up pops your image list. Choose one you like, and what have you got a picture for the 1000th reply on "Pictures of the Day"
here it is "James the Red Engine" on a visit to Bo'ness!

I think that Chris managed it with the picture of Sir John Betjemen in the Harrods lorry. This post is 1003.

You are quite right, but this is 1,004th post but only the 1,003rd reply!Hell Razor5543 wrote:I think that Chris managed it with the picture of Sir John Betjemen in the Harrods lorry. This post is 1003.
So yes I have "reserved" the 1,000th reply but it is/was the 1,001th post!

PS why has the marketing phrase "1,001 cleans a big big carpet for less than half a crown" stayed with me all these years

Re: Picture(s) of the day...
Because it's become a true classic of advertising like Double Diamond's 'I'm only here for the beer' and several others..NewcastleFalcon wrote: PS why has the marketing phrase "1,001 cleans a big big carpet for less than half a crown" stayed with me all these years
Such as the Esso Blue Paraffin adverts...
Showing my age again now

A doppelganger! That's not me; but I do work only a mile or two from Bo'ness railway. Fully intend to volunteer in the workshops when Kids are a bit bigger and I have a bit more timeNewcastleFalcon wrote: here it is "James the Red Engine" on a visit to Bo'ness!

That is the sort of random bullseye I love Richard, and definitely one of those "what are the chances of that happening?" coincidences. 5.3 Million images on geograph to chose from, and I come up with one from another RichardW from the backyard of The RichardW moderator of this parish!RichardW wrote: A doppelganger! Very nice too when the Malachite Green is combined with a bit of "Sunshine Yellow" detailing....not a "Spamcan" but a very nice example of this version of Southern Railways Livery.CitroJim wrote:Neil, yes, BR Blue is a lovely livery but my favourite is Malachite Green that many SR 'Spamcans' were painted in..
