Still on drum brakes that quickly faded if you used the power, quite frightening at 100mph when the brake pedal is solid and you just keep going faster.

Downhill with a following wind or fired out of a very large cannon Gibbo :!: :-D

always a strange choice to my mind when you see them in Classic Touring Car events, the Westie; they're just so big & roly-poly. Mk IX Jag similar applies..... not that I know anything Motor-Racing

M1 with four up (all mechanics) Neil going to the motor show at Earls Court, in the distance probably three miles ahead we saw a car go flying up in the air, braking I found that bugger all happened and it seemed forever before we got down to a comfortable speed, that accident ahead was drawing us in like a huge magnet. :( .

I had that experience, brake fade, frequently on my Velox's and Cresta's when I was young and used to drive like an idiot, mainly due to racing up to junctions and standing on the brakes. On inspection the brake shoes looked like glass, I tried sanding them down but can't remember how effective that was. Eventually I slowed down - and then they invented disc brakes. 8-)

Rock fall, Punta Lara, Dec2018.jpg
We've had some of the heaviest rain for years here, a couple of weeks ago.
This lump of rock fell on the N340 coast road west of Nerja, in the Punta Lara area.
No-one was hurt, but the road was closed for over a week while the rock was broken up and removed.

On a cheerier note - and impressive (UK take note), some local two-lane main road through Algarrobo had its tarmac renewed last week – a 1km in length, including a couple of roundabouts, through a built-up and commercial area. Nothing special there, but it was the speed of the operation that was impressive:
- Day 1: old tarmac machine-nibbled and removed down to a depth of 8cm or so, and roughed up
- Day 2: sections coated with bitumen adhesive, new tarmac, and rolled smooth
- Day 3: white lines and roadmarkings repainted, and whole area left clean.
The most impressive bit was that the road was at no point closed, and the new tarmac stretches match the old in level almost precisely. A small fleet of machines and men kept busy non-stop.

Even better, the long and elevated speed bumps (some carrying pedestrian crossings) are now a lot less high then they were before, because these were not resurfaced! \:D/

Lots of the road resurfacing here at the moment too and just as mechanised, the local council has £150 million for these projects in progress.

I'll elevate this one to POTD rather than go for what would possibly prove to be a very difficult whatsthisthen? :-D

Came across it searching for Van's recent whatsthisthen? using "sedan" as one of the search terms.

This popped up on the image list. May well have inspired Kate Bush to write...."wow, wow, wow, wow, wow wow.....un..believe..able" Absolutely bang on topic for the French Car Forum. 70's of course, wine is not the only thing made in the Loire!

Image

....I'll leave it hanging though....someone may recognise it immediately
