Re: Picture(s) of the day..
Some striking images there Steve.
I came across this one today, straight from the staged marketing stable which doesn't carry quite as much weight but I am a sucker for a bridge with a train going across it. Especially when its Ribblehead Viaduct

Shame it's entirely spoilt by an obnoxious car-thing in front of it
And in silver too... No imagination... Volvo's chief designer... "I know, let's just do what we've done since 1985 and make it massive and ugly and then we'll paint it silver... Perfect! Please pass the ruler..."

Jim, I have more disappointment for you. The Volvo isn't the only bit of controversy in the picture!
I do believe the locomotive on the viaduct is this one. A class 66 Diesel. Have a read on wiki about them...imposters from Canada! built by an offshot of General Motors and detested by drivers!

Oh, I know all about those Neil! Ugly buggers but very capable all the same. Luckily it's far enough away in the picture not to detract from it too much

Re: Picture(s) of the day..
A picture from my bike ride on Saturday...
The quality of the ride photography on these Sportives is exceedingly high...
And just to keep the railway bridge theme going...
This is a bit of a particularly fine but disused bridge at King's Cliffe and not far from the end of the Nene Valley Railway...
Shame a car got into this picture

Re: Picture(s) of the day..
Nice pictures Jim, just had a bit of a delve into King's Cliffe and came up with this.
Now engines all polished and shiny can look beutiful, but so does a bit of dirt and grime, a bit of working patina!

..and that is a Class.........?????

That's a lovely picture

Either that a Class 25...

Re: Picture(s) of the day..
I'll not keep you guessing Jim, its a Class 24.
Regards Neil
Collateral informaion the is also an old RAF Airfield at King's Cliffe with a few derelict buildings intact...if you know what I mean!Longsight, Manchester based Class 24 #D5146 approaching Kings Cliffe station with a westbound passenger train in June 1965.
The same loco was lucky to survive this long having been at the head of a freight train derailment in 1963 at Weedon in Northants that saw a passenger train plough into the derailed wagons.
D5146 was eventually withdrawn along with most of the class in early 1976.

Re: Picture(s) of the day..
And I looked at a class 24 too Neil and dismissed it as the picture of one I saw did not have the headcode box and the front end was slightly different...
Not far off with my thoughts of a Class 25 as the 24 was the basis for the 25...
All were retired by 1980...
