Chap I worked with at at Norton said that if you put a Rolls into reverse and floor it the front bumper should scrape! Such was the power and comfort.

Does anyone know of any decent car shows in the southern half of the country. I passed a couple of Mk 2 Cortina's today so there must have been one not to far away. The best ones seems to have been at Powderham castle near Exeter but I missed that.

Decent car shows Peter in the South.....

Not wonderfully relevant as none are shows as such; but a mention of....
Museums: Atwell Wilson, Calne. Haynes, Sparkford. Oxford Bus.... all very good

Runs: London Brighton VSCC and/or Historic Commercial Vehicle Society.
Bristol Vintage Bus Group also do various runs

Races: Castle Combe Classic, coming up. I plan to be there this year; I like the Classic Saloon racing, partic the 'David & Goliath' races with A40 Farina's, Imps, Wolseley 1500's v the Ford Falcons / Mustangs & various Jags.

PS: love the Renault 8's Moizeau, such character and rarity

Thanks. Been to Haynes, excellent show but not quite the same atmosphere as a rally, I like to be able to talk to people and say things like " I passed my test in one of those" :-D There used to be a very good one at Yeovil but its got less and less cars each year, mostly steam engines now - still interesting though.

There is one at Beamish in September but unfortunately its the day after we leave Yorkshire for Scotland. There used to be lots of fairly local ones, where have they all gone? There was an excellent one at Colyton, Devon a few years ago, just the right size so you could see everything before your legs started wearing down.

Thanks for that, wrong sort of cars though, New Zealand seems to be the place to go for British classics.

I googled the Beamish Classic Car Day, unfortunately we just miss it too, seems we're off to Scotland just before you.

Don't overlook the Great Dorset Steam Fair, which I'm sure you're already aware of and includes various car displays. It definitely doesn't fall into the "just the right size" category, but you could always hire an electric Scooter or, as we do, take a bicycle.

I'm afraid I keep clear of the Dorset Steam Fair. I went to Wimborne last week and the traffic was diabolical, come the steam fair and its much worse, there were signs up indicating delays when its on. last week. I would like to go but its to much hassle. I prefer a smaller one like the Yeovil Festival of Transport used to be.

We shall go to Beamish anyway, we always do only unfortunately last years ticket has run out so we will have to pay this time. :( I saw a video of the Pickering one of a couple of years ago, looked very good but doesn't seem to be on this year - or already has.

We shall be at Scotch corner for five days at the end of September then off to the north of Scotland - see you there.

Not what I've spotted but I thought you might like a wander through the Pebble Beach Concours, some nice Citroens on show.

some amazing stuff there at Pebble Beach. Loving the stylish but deeply impractical Ferrari 512, Slide 24 (Pininfarina).

....and the outrageous '37 Cadillac, Slide 28. A little similar to the Peugeot 402, but with a considerably more 'extreme' take on flowing lines

Here's a couple separated at birth, with Pininfarina just slightly tweaking their drawings...

the resemblance is obvious isn't it! I was only looking at a really well made video of a Pug 404 earlier on Youtube; yet it didn't occur to me. Seems glaring obvious with the two side by side.

I was surprised to realise the A55 Cambridge is also Pininfarina. That early design was nice, with the chrome beneath the tail-lights and the big fins; but when I came along they'd all but gone and the rather staid 1961 later cars were much more in evidence.

NB: with ref to Moizeau's post with the pic of the Ren6; has anyone heard if things are progressing with the ex-Vulgalour Renault 6 ?
