It's along while ago, could well be that the top control on the wheel is purely mixture. I never actually had to use it in the car I was in as it was already warmed up when I got to it. Also is well over ten years ago so the memory is a bit foggy!

The T I can remember pretty clearly purely because it's so different to your modern control layout. Throttle on there is entirely based around a hand control on the wheel (right hand side, left is timing).

I do believe they use the quaint term "Strangler" for the choke!
Pull the combined strangler and throttle control knob on the instru-
ment board to close the carburetter air inlet, and pull out the switch to
operate the starter.

Be sure to release the strangler wire after the engine has started.
Do not allow the engine to race when first starting up, as time must he allowed
for the oil to circulate and lubricate various bearings
Great stuff!

One of the first cars I ever drove, it was an interesting thing to get started in, the clutch from the floor to full bite was about a quarter inch so you really had to be careful how you let the pedal up.

It also had a tendency to drag when only slightly worn so they used to put the thickest gear oil (black jack) they could find to make it easier to get into first without making horrible crashing noises.

Quite fun to drive once you got used to it but what they don't tell you about these old things is that they needed decoking and the valves lapped in after about 7k miles and with no oil filtering they tended to run big ends often, no shell bearings in those days you had to send the con rods off to be re-metalled and machined out to size.

Cable brakes that 'sort of' worked if you could get them evenly adjusted, trial and error down the road until you could get it to stop in a straight line. :)

Did someone say model T?
Beaulieu have one of those too.
I didn't actually realise how ahead of it's time the T was until I was stood by it.

That last one's an Auburn straight eight I think, American, another car company that wet down the pan in the late 30s

Although I did get a little audio warning I was unable to get the camera ready in time to photograph the B17 that just flew over Reading!

Was it SallyB or the Bristol Blenheim? We had the latter over for the first (somewhate very wet!) day of the Air Festival. I popped over to Hurn to greet the Red Arrows.
<---- if you're lucky, you'll catch some of the Night Air - magic! If not, check it again over each day until Sunday.

It was the Flying Fortress, but I was not able to see the nose, so I could not see if there was any embellishments.

Sally-B and Bristol Blenheim to fly today. I Just heard, then saw a par of De Havilland Vampires on their approach to Hurn. We've also got a Mig15 due along with a P51- Mustang, and apparently some privately owned Spitfires and Hurricanes to replace the currently grounded Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft.

The rest of very many pictures from our visit to the Haynes Motor Museum on Sunday :)

https://flic.kr/s/aHsm2jVka3

It was also the Rare Breeds show in the car park but sadly, the weather was rubbish :(

The museum though is just excellent and well worth a visit...

I want STP6J, I ran one of those for three years and it was the most comfortable car I've ever owned and had a ride that compared very favourably with the Citroen 'magic carpet'

A shame the rust got it.
