Re: Classic for under £10K-what would be nice?
I only became aware of the rolling date due to a friend of ours fitting some to his t2 campervan, there is an l reg '93 mini with some around the back from me, looks great on a black one but a few years off legal, think its a first car, not had the heart to say anything,
After All, I am the Cornish one!

So, are we really paying some Civil Servant to write a blog? Shame they couldn't find one that knew what he was talking about.
AI wasn't the first number to be issued, it was only the first London No: e.g. SI is a few months older.
The bit about displaying B & W plates is vastly oversimplified - & misleading
Far from maintaining authenticity, this law of unintentional consequences permits vehicles to display B & W plates now that they couldn't (legally) when new.

B & W plates, now once again readily available, seem to have become a fashion accessory: lots of new black cars, mainly RangeRovers, with them, at least around London!

Reminds me of a British Rail joke. Thieves broke into a secure train and stole the most valuable contents. Police said that this would have taken at least four hours to complete. A BR spokesman said that what happened during staff tea breaks was not the fault of any staff.

Speaking as a time-served Civil Servant I resemble that remark
I've worked 42 years now... I wonder how may years of tea-breaks I've had in that time?

Another BR story recounts the tale when a crate with live animals in it got dropped and broken. The contents (a couple of hundred tortoises) were unharmed, and successfully made their bids for freedom. A BR spokesman, when asked why this happened, replied "They were just too quick for us!".

BR, allegedly, once lost good van (as they were delightfully known at the time) containing - an elephant!
Now, returning to early registration numbers, saw A 363 on Friday, it was on a 1904 Pug, still bearing a relatively recent tax disc, but, as it was at Retromobile, I assume it has been repatriated.
