"Fear and Passion" from the soundtrack of Sea of Love by Trevor Jones has a bit more Sax in it!

Regards Neil

There are so many versions. I like Cat Power's and Tom Waits'.

Nella Fantasia (Gabriel's Oboe) from "The Mission"

Or even better:

my discovery of the day. How? A simple factoid on Steve Wright's big show. Question was posed who wrote the music for the song "Smile" probably made most famous by Nat King Cole.

Answer...Charles Chaplin no less. The tune appeared in his score for the film "Modern Times".

In an earlier film of Chaplin's City Lights which he also wrote much of the score for, this composition by Jose Padilla Sanchez "La Violeterra" also was used. I quite like it....not often a bit of Spanish music appears on the PE Jukebox! Many versions

You mention Charlie Chaplin. How about Harpo Marx?

Seeing as this is the French Car forum....here's a French element to classic movie themes from Francis Lai who did win academy awards for "Love Story" in 1970. These are a little more "French" from the film "Une Homme et Une Femme" dug out from the PE Jukebox Archive

NewcastleFalcon wrote: 19 Apr 2017, 22:38 Interesting little snippet from wiki on Francis Lai....one of his most familiar compositions is this "Aujourd'hui C'est Toi" instrumental version from the film "Un Homme et Une Femme". You may have heard it somewhere before (Panorama Theme Tune)

Regards Neil
If you prefer the words Nicole Croisille et Pierre Barouh supply the vocals on this version

Just seen Sade on one of those TOTP old show from 1984. "Diamond Life" is packed with classic tracks. Wki classify it as smooth soul..sophisti pop. But I'm going for something a little later 1992....No Ordinary Love

Dont like the video though

I do hope the clue was.

"Who composed the theme tune to the long running BBC TV programme "Panorama" :?:

..and for the enjoyment of others who may have forgotten the theme tune to the "other sides" offering on a Monday night ie "World in Action" here it is again. I think its absolutely awesome. You have the opening titles which is just good, but the closing titles offer a superbly melancohlic variation on a theme, as if reflecting on the weighty content of that which had gone before. If you remember the programme so much the better but the music stands up on its own....

'fraid it's a much more boring "French film composer Francis (3)". It's still a bit of an obscure question to be asking in Mojo magazine. Perhaps the compiler of their crosswords is a fan of French cars ?

On a point of order, that's not the closing music for The Sweeney, it seems to be the full orchestra recording - perhaps from a commercial release of the theme tune. The actual closing music has fewer musical flourishes in it 8-[

My aplogies I hope the inaccuracy didn't spoil anyone's enjoyment. Yes and apology number 2, I suspect it wasn't the actual closing credits as used on the TV programme either (unless they actually did run on for 3 minutes after every episode) for world in action either....went on too long with too many flourishes as well.

Well if Harry South ever comes into the Pickled Egg, he can have a pint on me...excellent tune :-D

First heard this on a John Peel show, November 1978 and it has stuck with me.
It was by a band called "Processional" that appear to no longer exist.
