Came on Classic FM this evening and has me perplexed - I have some very similar sax music but can't remember what it is :)

First heard this by Wendy (Walter) Carlos on the "Switched On Bach" LP.
Thought it was great back then but the non-Moog versions are better.

Well this little bit of music trivia probably best sits in the Pickled Egg...

Where did the "Now thats what I call music?" series of compilations get their title from?

This Danish Bacon Company advertising poster from artist Lawson Wood

Small amount of research needed.....What was track one side one of the first "Now thats what I call Music" album?

Times up! It was Phil Collins with "You Can't hurry love"

Sorry Phil, lets go back to the original

Regards Neil

Just autoplayed on to the Temptations with "Papa was a rolling Stone"...tremendous track. Surprisingly good on headphones.

Liza Tarbuck did a pretty good job on Radio 2 tonight. Started her show off with this...

...and also co-incidentally with my last post had "Papa was a Rolling Stone" from the Temptations on later on.

and to link The Supremes and The Temptations in one, with Diana Ross, Liza also played this

Bit of colateral trivia. The Sax on the Hazel O'Connor track is iconic, on a level with the Gerry Rafferty Baker Street.

Two different players though and none of them Bob Holness of Blockbusters fame.

The Sax player on "Will You" is Wesley Magoogan, who was a member of "The Beat" from 1981 to 1983

If you read down this article you will find out that Wesley although being a great saxophonist, was not that good at DIY with disastrous consequences! :-D

The little-known musicians behind some of music's most famous moments

Interesting to find out that Ray Jackson from round these parts, played the iconic Mandolin bit on Rod Stewart's "Maggie May". Received credit only as "The Mandolin player from Lindisfarne who's name I forgot", £15 for his troubles, and had John Peel the DJ mime playing "his" bit on the Top of the Pops cos Peel was a mate of Stewart!

Come on Ray, Take a bow...heres his mandolin on Lady Eleanor!

I think the story goes that John Peel was only permitted to appear on stage miming on Top Of The Pops if he stayed in the background as he wasn't a Musician's Union member. Rod then made sure that at every possible point he stood next to John so the camera had to show both of them
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

I did hear that he had cut his fingers off after recording that but never looked at it any closer.

Done the same thing myself with a table saw. Not clever.

Could never find anything to like about Lindisfarne but did work with Allan Hull's cousin.
