Now when my first car was new, this was the sort of advertising that was used

Image

Now its the "Mini Not Normal Campaign" or should I say the "hashtag" MININOTNORMAL campaign!

Even involved a bit of Instant messaging on huge billboards on a London Road as Mini drivers passed by.
Pretty surprised it passed the planners!

But why advertise to another Mini anyway  :? It's a bit like offering me a Sliver C1. I've already got one.

I must say that hoarding is somewhat invasive and in your face.

To be honest, I much prefer the advert for the old Mini. Much more subtle and tranquil.

It was a little more invasive than just a single billboard message.....spotters would activate a series of messages on consecutive billboards along the road as the drivers continued on their journey. Even directing them to the next garage for a free car wash.

Slightly more conventional, but quite dramatic

Thanks BW, lovely piece of music in the ad. Lexus did a similar one but I don't know which came first.

They make are a nice pair anyway

The music is by Mark Joggerst and Ralf Kemper and is called "Lexus-The pursuit of perfection".

Well no one has put up a memorabe advert for the C5 yet. On a musical theme though, a little bit of Wagner gets this in...

Now this could be described as a nice pair. Audi and BMW hit the spot but in subtly different ways.

The Audi never moves off the spot, and all the talking is done by the V10.

The blue BMW shoots across the vast white salt flats, the raw power is punctuated by moments of serenity, stunning imagery, and soft piano.

Hard to say which I prefer, but the classy piano just gives it the edge over the V10 for me... (its extracted from Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 5 Second Movement)

Just to tidy up a loose end...

To point you in the right direction try googling North-East Town Halls and trawl through them until you match up the architecture.

I'll post the answer up and claim the pints myself if no-one gets it.

The glamourous location was South Shields Town Hall

This is Maidenhead Town Hall.....

It may well have appeared in a car advert but it did have a starring role in at least one movie....and one which just happened to be on TV today

any ideas?

It has appeared in 5 of the 'Carry on' films. Todays' film would be 'Carry On Doctor'.

My Mum was in the original 'Belles of St Trinians' film. If you have seen the film you might remember a scene where Mrs. Fritten comes out of her office into the main hallway to see a horse (Arab Boy) being ridden up the stairs. The young girl riding that horse was my Mum. She apparently got that part when the director found that none of the girls in the film were competent riders (which surprised him, he thought most girls could ride), and he didn't want to drop that scene. Then somebody noticed that there was a young girl riding a horse over several jumps a couple of fields away. When Mum was asked if she wanted to be in a film she said she would have to ask her Mum, who said yes.

Nice north-east link in the VW ad with Alan Price and "Changes" Born in Fatfield Co Durham, and went to Jarrow Grammar School :) I am sure he would be partial to a pint of Rivet Catcher.

Its a memorable ad as well

Great ad, every bit as good if not better than my second favourite, the Honda ad'. Can't help watching it and thinking 'now that does make proper sense' [long as you could live with the depreciation]

Obviously I'd love to say the 405 ad was the best.... but its so not. to paraphrase Kinky Boots, it needs to be RED!
