European breakdown cover - car over 16 y/o

Post by Napoleon »

Getting closer to departure for France, and about time finger was removed from orifice when it comes to breakdown cover for the trip.

Can't get it from Green Flag, as the car is over 16 years old, so does anyone know what my options might be? Apart from a long walk home.

Who might cover us for a bit over a week?

This is a clear case of ageism  There's a law against that...

Plenty of the classic fraternity take theirs abroad so there must be some cover available out there somewhere...

Perhaps a question to pose on the classic forums?

ADAC, the German equivalent of the AA. There's at least one (former?) member of this place who joined them when off on a European jaunt in an 80s VW camper whilst they were living in the UK. It's cheaper than the AA too. Downside is that you can't join online from outside Germany, you need to call the German number, and it is answered in German - but a quick "Sprechen sie Englisch" will sort that out. European cover is said to be very good.

They will cover you from your home address in the UK, the irony being, they use the AA for UK breakdowns :-)

No age limit on vehicles. Check the recovery/transport costs though. Some people have had slight issues getting cars repatriated when they have died miles away and been unrepairable.

Not at all Glyn :-D You're helping and advising a fellow member and that's absolutely perfect. It's not considered advertising in any way unless it's your company of course

Exactly. It is unsolicited commercial advertising that is unwelcome.
