Questioning the Sanity of the owners!??!
One of the sites I follow a fair bit, often turns up some lovely motors!mods but the latest had me wondering about the sanity of the drivers/owners doing what they've created!
http://www.stanceiseverything.com/2012/ ... hos-worse/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The japaneese do like the 'stretch and poke' aspect of getting the biggest wheels in as possible whilst remaining scrapingly low! Many are on air bags but a few choose the tradional coilover methods!!
Of those, I think I'd rather walk!

Re: Questioning the Sanity of the owners!??!
Is unbelievable isn't it! What goes through the mind of the owners when they carry out the mods! Do you think they stand back and look thinking, 'Yeah! Proud of that job!'
I recon if you take either truck offroad there'll be a great deal of creaking followed by Bangs and sudenly a lowered truck!
There is quite a bit of love on there for the old Cit's! Especially the DS and 2cv!!

You kind of get the impressive that these people dont drive very far I would love to see that Celica move, let alone on the road, those tyres are not even fitted! Looks terrible too!
Camber and having the right stance is quite popular in the VW scene and some people go to great lengths. I will admit that if subtle then it looks an improvement on the standard car but its still much firmer to ride in. I know people with cars whos drive shafts rub the chassis while on a flat road as they are so low, others have notched the chassis for the drive shaft to have some movement. Ive known stretched tyres pop off, windscreens crack and air bags deploy at the hit of a small bump due to all the give being taken up by the cars structure. 10 times out of 10, when they get to this degree of lowness they just look crap!

Re: Questioning the Sanity of the owners!??!
heres a link to another site i use a fair amount, Great automotoive photography, covering All aspects of the scene,
this is a show in japan that the celica attended
http://speedhunters.com/archive/2012/04 ... -pt-1.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
i do agree with chris that when done right they do look evry good! and can be achieved with only a little fettling, there is also another site i use along with the tweo already linked to pass the time on rainy days, http://www.stretchandpoke.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a little quieter on there but generally a full on show vehicle site, some impressive attention to deail!! one guy ion a mk5 golf on airbags had taken the time to measure and test out the height and fitment to get the wheel arch lip to sit between the Rim lip and tyre!
gotta admit though, i love the reports on the american classic shows with the old hot rods and wagons scraping the floor with matte paint and pinstriping over the modern stuff!! or the classic old school japaneese cars!

Talking of Hot Rod's Timmo I went to the NSRA SuperNats last year - some tasty cars there... (All pics here).

Sadly the rat rod scene has become cliquey and formulaic; much in the way karaoke eventually became professionalised the rats have become everything they scorned in the first instance.
Part of the fun with budget builds was "Will we make it to the show?" Now, when a built car fails to proceed, one usually sees the owner waiting for his next best friend with the car float and tow vehicle (the best friend proper, having accompanied our gormless adventurer to the point of ultimate failure).
It's yet another reason I have rejected much of the car show culture in recent years; more fun to spend the said money driving somewhere interesting and clique-free.

Re: Questioning the Sanity of the owners!??!
Is a very much Cheque book style of modifying for many, those who then claim the credit for such, was always one for the if you can do it then do it, If not, Don't! Philosophy, amazing how many modified cars Barclay card own!
The above just appeals, Simple chassis, bare essentials on and a charged V8! There's a vid on you tube of a guy in one with a twin stack supercharged V8 in it, sounds amazing! Thoroughly unpractical yes, but the Sound!

Re: Questioning the Sanity of the owners!??!
It looks like a bit of an ornament to me, can't see how or why you would want to drive it, if it can be driven on the roads with uncovered wheels and it sat on the floor.
I suppose, if you can then why not, but many people can do many things but there is often a reason why not.
Not my cup of tea, but I bet that one really appeals to people who like such 'cars' (not sure is it is a car!)
