406 lost wheel nut security adapter

Post by jgra1 »

chaps, urgent need to remove 2 wheels.. at a push I could buy something - but an imperial socket and a big hammer? I don't want to see the wheel bolts again, but I do want them out of the way cheaply..

thanks

John,

If you are happy to email me a picture of the locking nut, assuming this is the Coupé, I got two with mine. My Coupé is now gone but I'm sure I still have one of the keys somewhere which I can send to you if it would fit.

Failing that there is a tool that can be used. I cannot recall exactly what they were but Jim will be able to tell you. They dealt with mine with ease after I made the trip to Jim's without my adapter. They came out without much of a fight...so much for 'security' nuts

there is a tool which is a socket with a coures left handed spiral thread in side which you wind onto the wheel nut/bolt in the undoing direction, the spiral thread is spozd to bite into the nut/bolt head and unwind it from the wheel,

do a googly search and loads come up,

you can spend have hours of fun    trying to remove them without the removale tool

Or you could just order a new locking nut key for your car from the Dealer .
For what we are about to receive may we be truly thank full.

I've managed in the past with a standard reverse flute docket designed to remove bolts with knackered heads....

I used a 12 sided socket that's as close a fit as possible to the bit of the head you can see, get a lump hammer and belt it until it's tight on the socket then put a breaker bar on the socket and turn it. Mind and keep it square though as if the socket slips you're unlikely to get another go.

Have used this method several times now and it's never failed me. Getting the bolt out of the socket afterwards can be a bit fun but it's never wrecked the socket.

If they're anything like the 206 wheel locks I've seen, then you've no chance of hammering anything around them - they take up too much of the hole and the top edge is chamfered.

If the wheel has a centre cap, can the driveshaft nut be removed after this is taken out?

Admin, can we have a mega sticky for a week "Photograph your Locknut Key and Email it to Yourself"?

Use a free mail service like Yahoo, so it's accessible from any computer online. Show either the code, or the pin side, or both if possible...
