C5 Emissions 138 BHP

Post by Gregg1100 »

For the second year running, my sons 05 C5 went through MOT with an emissions level of 0.000---fresh air. He has contacted DVLA to ask why he is paying car tax, when other cars, that have a higher emissions, pay naff all.
I will let you know their answer. My son has told them they can do another test with them monitoring the result, just to confirm.
As DVLA set out all the rules, they should abide by them.
Every car has an emissions level which should be passed on electronically to dvla, for them to pass the dreaded MOT. After each MOT, the results should be collated and put into groups, as what happens for cars registered after 2001. Any car above 1600cc, which was registered before 2001, was just lumped into a fit all figure. They have had enough older cars pass MOT with lower figures, so why haven't they got a tax band for them.
My S reg Xant 1.9TD will be going for MOT soon, so I will do what I can to make sure is is breathing as it should be. I will let you know that result too.
I will also be taking my 92 Kawasaki GT 550 into my local MOT garage. They said they will put it onto the exhaust tester, just to see what that comes out at, just out of curiosty. 20 years old with 4 probably shagged carbs. A normal 600 cc bike will pay the best part of £80 annually---a quarter of the weight of a family car, so how do they justify that.
Wilkinson s delivery trucks ( 4 axle ) pay £160 a year, as do probably Tesco and all the rest. Go Figure.
Thieving gits,
Greg

Obviously a very healthy C5 2.0HDi 16v!

Road tax is based on fuel type and CO2 emissions (g/km), so even though its clean on the MOT test that is a different scale, as road tax is measured by how many grams per km.

Will be interesting to see what the DVLA say though!

I don't really understand how the 2.0 16v HDi has such a high road tax band. I mean, I get almost 8mpg more with my 2.0 138 16v HDi than our 2.0 110 8v HDi C5 and the 16v also has a diesel particulate filter, but I pay £40 more road tax than the less fuel efficient C5 without a particulate filter. :?
