Yes they are as DickieG says, made by the same company, so therefore would be as equals as regards reliability.

As PSA would not want to make one have a better reputation than the other in that respect, as it would not make commercial sense, they would, and do want to earn more Euro's overall from all their products.

on PSA, back when the 106 Gti and Saxo Vts were launched, Pug spent a little bit more time on the suspension set up on the 106 than citroen did the saxo and thus in std out the box trim the 106 handled significantly better! almost every test carried out on them would rate as such!!

as for hdi's, which ever shell takes your fancy the most i guess!!

Interesting, I remember VBS on TopGear said the VTS out performed the 106, suggesting buyers ignore the chevrons and go for it instead. Maybe peugeot didn't like that and upped their game?

VBS?? did you mean VBH maybe?? the lady with the Filthiest laugh!!!
the only difference to them were minor suspension tweaks aas they shared the same lump, same chassis, same body shell etc.

That's her, why did I think her last name was Schloss?
Anyway many moons ago when TG was still reasonably good, she tested them and the VTS came out on top, suggesting Citroen had tuned the engine to get a bit more out of it.
Or maybe chevrons on the bonnet are more aerodynamic than a lion?

i have a Vague recollection of when they had Tim Harvey and Richard Burns (God rest his soul) on testing all manor of cars, both rating the 106gti as very high incomparison to many much more expensive machines!

minor issue that harvey was driving for Peugeot then and Burns was rallying in them!  but still got a lot of praise!

shame no one makes cars of that ilk any more!

Or car programs *sigh*
I don't care what time a spaghetti vagrant can do around the track, or if a classic car can be made to float.
I want to know useful stuff, like what normal cars are available and what is good or bad about them.
5th gear was a bit like that.

5th gear was for a while but sadly it doesnt draw in the viewing numbers! 4rsing around in cars seems to! TG Do openly say that they are Not a factual review type show and are an Entertainment show with a motoring hint! there used to be one on an obscure channel in the freeview lists but that died off from lack of use and then there was the one with Jason whats his name and penny mammories on M&M channel! used car road show?? that didnt stay on for long either!
seems factual car things are left to magazines than telly!
