Crikey where are you going, the top of Mont Blanc?
Yorkshire I believe, unless the I<indeterminate number of Cs>R has changed venue to somewhere less remote....
There's a thought Jim, when we go to the IC^C+1R we can do Convoy (though maybe with our shirts on and fewer explosions judging by its poster that I've just looked up)
Would be better than 446s...

A convoy to the ICCCR sounds like a good idea! Not that good for people 'tup north though!  It'd take a lot of organising, but it'd be worth it to see a huge convoy of Citroens heading up to it with the CBs! A rendezvous point would be needed, and perhaps other points enroute for others to join...

It could work...

Well the main journey is up the M1 then A1, it's 160ish miles and at least 3 hours of solid driving, where as to keep it pleasant stops every hour would be best.
So, if we picked service stations that are north of main feeder roads, then people can wait at them until the convoy arrives, and call one of us in the convoy to find out how far away we are or if they've missed us.
We could make up some large magnetic panels, with I and R on 2 each for the lead and tail cars, and numerous ones with C on them for middle cars :D

There's a strange pulsating tone on ch11 near MK and Bedford, sounds like a 1950s B movie UFO...

Interference or just the sound of being alone in the wilderness?

On a serious note is anyone still using CB radios?

If this were another forum I'd post the forever alone meme :)

Yes people are still using them.
Yesterday I heard someone giving instructions on how to build a PC, and another about radios with one of the participants wanting to buy some faulty ones to try and repair
Today on the way to Bedford I heard a snippet of conversation about the Watford Gap services before they went out of range.

This evening there was an interesting discussion about transistors over Bedford way, which seems to be more active than over in MK.

Spent the afternoon removing the ashtray completely and fitting the rig in its place.
Fits really well as if made for it.
Now just need to find some open space and make sure it all still works :)

Around here most seem to be base stations, some annoyingly with burners hogging 19
Did read on another forum about a pratt up north with a burner effing and blinding all the time, apparently he's also a HAM and uses similar language on there resulting in a warning from ofcom :)

By 'burners' I presume you mean big amplifiers to be able to run more transmit power? Bit illegal that! I bet local TV viewers love them to bits  Those cheap amps are not exactly clean and will generate harmonics and sprogs all over the place...

Back in my amateur radio days we used to call annoying people 'LIDS'

It derived from people who used to tap tin lids in front of the microphone to cause mayhem and in morse the term translated to 'bad operator'

A typical report of such activity might have been 'QRM LID' which literally translated to 'I am being interfered with by a bad operator...'

Yup very illegal.
If you want to want to talk long distance be a radio ham (is that just a play on amatuer?)
From what some people have posted the foundation exam is unfailable, no need for morse, or even to know what UHF/VHF/HF even mean.
Or go on top of a hill during high sunspot activity and try skipping. Some people often talk to the East coast yanks that way over CB.
I can see why a lot of people have left it.
