Admiral were trying to charge me £374 for my HDi, 51 years old, 34 years no claims bonus, no accidents claims or convictions.
Im very surprised given your occupation that they charged you this, its only that for me as a 28 year old idiot/plumber to insure the Activa :?

That's because they speak Welsh!!!!
I didn't realise that there were many Welsh people living in Bombay  Admiral are somewhat cheeky in that when you ask for new quotes you get people from either the UK or Canada, contact them for an alteration in the policy and you end up talking to someone in Bombay who I invariably can't understand a word of what they are saying.

Diamond are just another branch of our old favorite - Admiral...

Having entered the very same details into comparison sties Admiral ask £100 less for a new quote with the same details, removing commuting and changing occupation to retired raises the premium by £35 :?
Always had UK staff when I've phoned Admiral and they've always been cheaper than anyone else.
I would presume the reason for a premium increase with the removal of commuting would be there's more chance of driving for longer during the day, during the school run in the afternoon etc, where as if you're driving to and from work, the car's going to be stationary for most of the time.

How many financial bodies are at the bottom of UK car insurance (as in, guaranteeing the underwriters)? Is it only one or two?

You'd think there would be a healthy market for private insurance funds.

One thing I haven't mentioned on this thread is that I've reduced the annual mileage by 3,000 miles. as for my commuting it can't get much worse than the A40, Hanger Lane Gyratory followed by the North Circular Road, the stretch I call "The Wild West" as so few people driving along that stretch appear to have a licence.

The thing I've heard so many times is that Police and/or shift workers are given higher quotes due to the number that fall asleep on their way home from nights, which is reasonable as I know a number who've done that, I won't suffer that issue again thank heavens.

One thing I can't get my head around with Admiral is that they quote my not very quick diesel estate worth peanuts at the same price as Dawns brisk 2.5 litre BMW Convertible worth four times the amount of the HDi, how does that work?

The problem in the UK is the amount of uninsured drivers and fraudulent claims re personal injury costing honest people a significant amount. A recent survey has pinpointed the area's where this problem is most prevalent as shown on this map here I can't for the life of me work out if there is a common theme with these areas :^o

Tried them, IIRC £528

The dearest so far, Lancaster @ £2801, the next one really made me laugh, "Bad Boy" (whoever they are but I can guess) quoted £1575, heavens knows how much they would charge a proper bad boy!

Its quite strange when you think about insurance, I can't honestly think of what more anyone could do to present the perfect customer to an insurance company than I do.

In our politically correct present country it has now been ruled illegal to discriminate on gender when it comes to insurance despite the evidence being well founded, so there's no point in me donning the outfit in my avatar

I'm a bit pissed off with my insurance at the moment

I can log in and look at my account online.

For a few weeks before renewal in June, I used their quote system to try to anticipate what the renewal premium would be - £315 to £320 compared to the first year's £327, so ok I reckoned

The renewal quote came and suddenly it was £357. I asked on the phone why it had leapt upwards from 3 weeks earlier, and they waffled and said rates are always changing.

I just looked last night ..... £308

I might be about to get more upset, as someone drove into the back of the trailer on the back of it a couple of days ago and bounced off and hit the back of the car as well, so towbar and back bumper damaged.

What happens if they decide it's not economically repairable, make a low offer of what it might be worth, only a few quid more than the combined excess, then decide it's too complicated for them to chase the other party insurers in another country to get my excess back?

I can see myself in a couple of weeks time saying I'm getting no more value than if I'd insured 3rd party only, which is now £85 cheaper than I spent.

0844 numbers for everything as well.

Another thing, which is an anomaly as per the thread title

The series 2 Xantia is about 4 or 5 insurance groups higher than the earlier one, same group as E class Mercedes and 5 series BMW, rather than Mondeos and Vectras I'd assume it would be compared to.

Hi Steve and Gibbo, I'd hate to dispell your sceptiscism, but I've just got a cracking deal off Saga.

SWMBO has been insured with them for a number of years, with me as a named driver and the policy is up for renewal at end of t'month. I did not like the renewal premium, as like most of us, insurance is just a necessary evil.

After spending a few wasted hours farting around with these screen scrapper websites, I eventually get a price from Swintons that was £50 cheaper, so I thought that was a deal. A good night out and with a fish supper thrown in.

I then notice Saga do a price matching, (dont they all!) so I ring them and they say "Yes, they'll match the price on like for like policies. What is the compulsory excess?" the bint asks, "No I cannot price match as its dearer."

I go back on line and tweak the Swinton quote, the more I reduce the voluntary excess, the cheaper the insurance gets!!!!!!

Finally I go back to Saga and say "Suck on that". Now the dude on the line is much more amenable and says yes, they can give us insurance £1 cheaper than Swintons.

My next card, "Does that include the fees for credit interest?"

"No, but it soon will" was the reply and he came back with an even smaller quote.

So in the space of a ten minute phone call, my wife's car insurance was reduced by fifty per cent. :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yeah: :snowman:

Makes you wonder if they pluck these figures out of the air, dont it?

We've no allegiance to any of these firms, as they're all robbin' b'stards, but just think its worth a bit of time beating them down, as they must all be desparate for business.

The nob that really wrankles me though is that the 'kin' tax the government sticks on the insurance has now gone up to 6%. Another stealth tax brought on by that socialist git swanning about in the Middle East, earning fortunes. Will he ever get strung up?

Handyman, I'm a nice chap, really.
