It was barbed wire. Did you see the motorcycle medics riding alongside trying to bind his bleeding wounds as he continued on?

Today he had bandages from heels to knees. Poor sod.

It would seem the C5 swerved to avoid contact with a tree that bulged out a bit into the road. If it had hit the tree the result could have been a lot sorse. And I don't mean a bent Citroen.

both riders finished the stage though! 8-) the guy that hit the fence got tangled up in it, really nasty gouges (sp??) to his legs and arms,

the driver has been removed form the drivers list for the rest of the tour!

was a lady rider out on a jolly on a rest day with a large group who's carbon wheels gave out during a 40mph cruise down the mountains! she broke collar bone, a few ribs and some other bones! pushing the boundries fo the tech to keep the weight as close to minimum allowed results in very fragile bikes! :(

strangely enough had a phone call yesterday from sister in law who lives near Le Mans. went up there last week day before stage left, drinking in a hotel bar & got talking to a Dutch guy who was there with a cycle team. turns out he's aforementioned dad, Hoogerland senior. Johnny came down, spoke for a few minutes then they disappeared off.

brave brave chap, apparently very well liked in France as well as Holland
