Lexia

Post by f00lzz »

Hi All.

After a few weeks of V6 maintenance in the recent good weather I have a renewed energy with regards to this brilliant car and would like to purchase one of the Lexia machines with a view to keeping the V6 on the road and repaying others for their help over the years.

I have seen a number of Lexia 3 on ebay for between £150 - £180. I have also seen larger workshop ones for £600.. what is it that you guys with Lexia have? Surely not these big workshop ones!

If I get one of these £150 ones will I be able to connect with my laptop and do a reasonable diagnostic service?
Will it also work on other vehicles such as a 2005 Saab 2.2TiD or an Audi S3?

Most people have the clones, Jim has a real one and maybe some other people do but on the whole they are copies and work well from what i understand.
You have to make sure you get all the cables to be able to diagnose all the different ages of car but they will only work on citroen vehicles.
My understanding is they come with two discs, one with Pug planet for peugeots and then the citroen program, someone will clear that up though.

The main thing is they will not work on other cars, just citroen and pug, also i believe you need an old dedicated laptop with a windows o/s on it to actualy work from as the lexia box itself is just an interface between computer and car.

Oh shoot.. I was hoping to be able to justify the purchase on the grounds that it would at least be suitable for my current stable of vehicles... I certainly can't justify buying one for each car...
Would the lexia work as just an OBD2 basic tool for the Saab at least?

I dont think so no, thats the issue really, they are a dealer tool and make specific.
You can get a nice hand held obd2 diag for about £100, nice one with all the bells and whistles you could want, live data etc and it will work on all vehicles but in a limited way.
My father in law has one and it works on his Porche's for engine diagnostics but they wont turn the air bag light off, just wont talk to the ecu, although it would on his MGTF, it gave live data on the MG but would not give any on a 306HDI he had as it seems the pug ecu would not let this reader see any live data and more importantly the rail pressure.

As you can see they are all a bit hit and miss, the trouble with a generic one is the ecu wont show it certain faults as we found out with the pug, the reader says all is well but the ecu has codes on it, it just will only show certain ones to generic readers, very sneaky really.
And a bit of a pain in the but if you run a mixed fleet.

I'm sure you could justify one of these for the Audi..
A friend brought one and used it on his old golf, his audi A4 and beetle.
I'm waiting for mine for the Seat.

Decisions decisions... do I buy one of these and get a 'jack of all trades' http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-CODE-READER-S ... 45f273225d

or this just for Citroen?
